During the Fall of 2009, I took a course called EOL 440: Professional Issues for Teachers. The focus of the course was the organization of school systems, teacher conduct, and legal and professional issues. The class increased my awareness of my personal beliefs and values regarding the teaching profession through the use of weekly journals. My artifacts include a link to the University's course description and the course syllabus, as well as a few journal entries.

The EOL 440 course introduced me to many important laws in education and how they developed in a historical context. We also focused on common modern issues teachers face today. We also discussed the state's role in education and the federal impact of NCLB. We also looked at the powers of the school boards, administration, teachers, and unions. EOL 440 concluded with a discussion of teacher's rights and reasons for teacher dismissal.

With the completion of EOL 440, I can uphold the laws governing the education system as well as conducting myself as a professional to the highest degree of teaching standards. I will be a positive role model to my students and expect the same from them. I know what the state expects from me, my students, and my schools.
