Artifacts:
E-Portfolio
Wyzant Math Resource Section
Geometer's Sketchpad Activity
My first artifact is this website, my E-Portfolio. I have various pages about myself, my teaching philophies, reflections on teaching standards and works showing how I met these standards, as well as a blog with general thoughts about math and education. My second artifact is a math resource section I helped develop when I worked for a tutoring website. This helped me use technology to develop comprehensive lessons in various areas of mathematics by communicating and collaborating with my colleagues on what should be included in the site. I researched various problems and constructed what I thought were the best material to put on the site that would help comprehension of the reader. My third artifact is an activity using Geometer's Sketchpad for students to discover important properties of circles and proportions. The worksheet gives step by step instructions on how to use the program and manipulate constructions.
This website is an example of a tool for displaying my work as well as my professional development as a teacher. On this website, a visitor can see information about my educational background, interests, teaching philosophies, and the state standards that I have met. I have uploaded various artifacts from my classwork and from the field that I have created over time and reflected upon. My second artifact has personally help me with my growth as a teacher and an active researcher using technology because it enabled me to constantly find the best way to present information to the public. My third artifact is an activity I created using Geometer's Sketchpad in CI 402M: Teaching Diverse Middle School Students. The activity lets students create constructions using this program on the computer and allow students to formulate conjectures about what they have discovered doing the activity.
This standard has become increasingly important as teachers find new ways to integrate technology into the classroom. I plan on using various technologies for students to access information that can help them establish connections and visualize concepts. The use of these technologies will also be a means for improving my own manners of teaching through research, self reflection, and exchanging of ideas through communication. A key issue with this standard is that it calls for equal access to media and technology resources for all students. In my school, I will be aware of the technologies available both at school and at home for students.
